IIT JEE Advance 2016: As many as 1,98,228 candidates had cleared the JEE (Main) examination which was held both online and offline in 132 cities

IIT JEE Advance 2016: Around two lakh students had appeared for the JEE (Advanced) examination for entry into the coveted IITs.

The format of the JEE (Advanced) Paper-1 is more or less like the questions that were asked prior to 2015. It contained single answer correct type MCQs, multiple answer correct type MCQs and integer answer type MCQs.

Two key changes were there. Firstly the partial marking for multiple answer correct has been brought back. Secondly, the paper was more logical than being calculative.

In Chemistry overall difficulty level is moderate. There were at least 4 questions which were not at all easy and could easily be mis-interpreted by the students.

There were 5 questions from Organic Chemistry, 6 from Inorganic Chemistry and 7 from Physical Chemistry. It would be difficult to score 80 per cent in the chemistry paper.

In Mathematics, the paper is typically tough as per the standards of JEE. There were about 4-5 questions which have lengthy solutions. Even in this paper, scoring wouldn’t be high.

In Physics, overall paper was easiest that the other two subjects. It could be the best part amongst the three. All questions were standard and clear.

The average expected score is between 40 per cent to 60 per cent.

Analysis of JEE (Advanced)-2016 – Paper-2

The format of the JEE (Advanced)-2016 Paper-2 is drastically different as compared to previous year. There are more single option correct questions as compared to previous year. The matrix match questions are missing. Also, the paragraph based questions are single option correct whereas in previous year, they were multiple answer correct.

In Chemistry, the difficulty level is moderate. There are atleast 4 questions which are difficult for students to analyse. Section wise distribution is as follows : Inorganic Chemistry – 5 question, Organic Chemistry – 7 questions, Physical Chemistry – 6 questions. It will be difficult to score 85 per cent.

In Mathematics, Paper-2 is comparatively easier than Paper-1. The overall paper of mathematics is balanced. The paper did contain a couple of tricky questions. Calculus part was very nice. Major portions are calculus and co-ordinate geometry, 12th portion dominated over 11th.

The Physics section was the most difficult of the 3 subjects. It contained 2 ambigous questions as well. Average score expected is very less, should be around 33 per cent. The mechanics portion is especially tougher.

Overall the paper has been difficult for an average student.

IIT Guwahati is the organising institute for JEE 2016. There were two papers in the JEE (Advanced) in which the students appeared.

The results of JEE Main were declared by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) last month.
As many as 1,98,228 candidates had cleared the JEE (Main) examination which was held both online and offline in 132 cities.
Nearly 12 lakh candidates had taken this exam of which 19,820 have qualified for the JEE (Advanced) Online while 1,78,408 candidates have qualified for the JEE (Advanced) offline test.

This national level engineering entrance exam is the second stage of JEE. It was conducted only for top 1.56 lakh rank holders of JEE Main in 2016. As CBSE announced JEE Main 2016 cutoff, which was 100 for General category candidates, 70 for Other Backward Classes (OBC-NCL), 52 for Scheduled Caste (SC) and 48 for Scheduled Tribe (ST), nearly 1.98 lakh candidates above this cutoff in different categories were eligible to appear for JEE Advanced 2016. A candidate can attempt this exam a maximum of two times and that too in consecutive years.

Closing ranks (for academic session 2015-2016) across IITs and ISM Dhanbad (open category)

IIT Bombay continued to be the most preferred IIT and the admissions to this prestigious institute was closed at  AIR 2637, while the last allotted seat continued to be of ISM Dhanbad. Most of the IITs witnessed lower closing ranks as compared to last year with four IITs – IIT Bombay, IIT Indore, IIT Kanpur and IIT Jodhpur being the exceptions. IIT Mandi was the worst hit with the closing rank for the institute falling by over 1000 ranks. The institute witnessed a closing rank of 6313 this year as compared to last year's closing rank of 5146.
