Watch: The 'Azhar' trailer promises to reveal all about cricket and Azharuddin

Emraan Hashmi, in 'Azhar' has played former Indian skipper, Mohammad Azharuddin. He was one of the most successful but most controversial captains to lead the Indian side. The trailer of the film is out now and from the looks of it, the film seems to be much more than a sports biopic with elements like romance, love, betrayal, pride and patriotism meshed together in the trailer.

Prachi Desai plays Azhar's first wife, who felt betrayed on being passed over for his second wife, Sangeeta Bijlani, that has been played by Nargis Fakhri. The latter will probably reprise the real-life actress' popular number, 'Oye oye,' as hinted in the trailer. The story is the tale of Azharuddin's rise to glory and the downfall that followed.

Directed by Tony D'Souza and produced by Ekta Kapoor, 'Azhar' also stars Lara Dutta as a lawyer, Huma Qureshi as Jwala Gutta and Gautam Gulati as Ravi Shastri. With a promise of unearthing the ugliest secrets of the most loved game of India, 'Azhar' is scheduled to release on May 13, 2016.

With Emraan Hashmi, you expect kissing scenes: Mohammed Azharuddin

Former Indian cricket team captain Mohammed Azharuddin seems to be okay with the sizzling on-screen chemistry actor Emraan Hashmi shares with Nargis Fakhri, who plays Sangeeta Bijlani in the upcoming biopic on the controversial cricketer.

The trailer shows sizzling chemistry between Emraan and Nargis.

When asked about it, Azharuddin says, "Emraan shares sizzling chemistry with everybody. There is nothing new about it...Ask me something new. With Emraan Hashmi you expect that (kissing scene). If that (kissing scene) not there then people get disappointed."

The biopic, directed by Tony D'Souza, has elements of love, romance, betrayal, pride and patriotism meshed together.

The 53-year-old cricketer-turned-politician, who burst onto international scene in mid 1980s when he hit three consecutive centuries in as many Tests, was one of the most successful but controversial captains to lead Team India.

"I speak to everyone before taking a decision. I never take decisions alone as it is difficult. Like in 1993 Hero Cup, in one of the matches, we as a team, decided that Sachin Tendulkar should bowl," Azharuddin said, when asked if he had spoken to Bijlani before giving consent for the biopic.

Produced by Ekta Kapoor, the film also stars Lara Dutta as a lawyer and Gautam Gulati as Ravi Shastri, a former captain and Azharuddin's contemporary.
