Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza Launched in India; Prices, Specs, and Features
Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza was recently launched in India at a starting price of 6.99 lakh that goes all the way up to 9.68 lakh (introductory; ex-showroom Delhi) for the top-end ZDI+ Dual-Tone variant. The Vitara Brezza, Maruti Suzuki' first sub-4 metre SUV in India, will be offered in a total of 6 trim levels: four primary and two optional - LDI, LDI (O), VDI, VDI (O), ZDI, ZDI+.
The Maruti Vitara Brezza, based on Suzuki's Global C platform, takes its design inspiration from its larger sibling - the new generation Suzuki Vitara. With that being said, it was not only developed in-house by Maruti, but also made its global debut in India at the Auto Expo 2016. Furthermore, the Vitara Brezza also sports a localisation level of 98 per cent and will be completely manufactured in the country.

Then there is the muscular-looking bumper with large air intakes flanked by fog-lamps and LED guide lights. The side profile flaunts black under body plastic cladding that runs across the wheel boxy arches, and blacked-out A-, B- and C-pillars. The Maruti Vitara Brezza also gets a sporty set of alloys and roof rails. While the top-end variants gets 16-inch alloy wheels, the lower trims get 15-inch steel rims.
The Vitara Brezza's rear tops off the SUV's masculine appeal: it gets wraparound tail-lamps, chunky chrome unit on the tailgate, and a meaty bumper. Maruti is also offering special accessory packages on the Brezza, namely Glamour, Sporty, Urban along with the segment-first dual exterior colour options, which includes
Keeping in with the company's latest set of products, Maruti Vitara Brezza also gets enough number of safety features. Available in six trims, driver-side airbag is standard on all variants though. With that being said, LDi and VDi trims do not get passenger-side airbag and ABS with EBD as standard; instead they are available with the options pack. The car also comes with reverse parking camera and sensors and manual headlight leveling among others. Furthermore, Maruti claims the Brezza is safety compliant with the proposed offset and side impact norms, expected to be applicable from 2017.

Unlike the Baleno, Maruti will retail the Vitara Brezza via its regular dealerships. Though the S-Cross failed to live up to expectations, the Brezza is expected to be the game changer in the UV space. The competitive pricing will most certainly aid the company's hopes for the car. One must note, Maruti had earlier said that it hopes to introduce AMT on the Vitara Brezza later, while a petrol engine is also said to be under development. Deliveries for the new model will commence on March 21 across the country.
In India the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza will lock horns with Mahindra TUV300 and Ford EcoSport.
Maruti Suzuki has finally launched the compact SUV Vitara Brezza
that the Indian car maker had shown at Auto Expo 2016. With the last
year seeing a lot of new compact SUV launches, we compare the
specifications of the the Vitara Brezza with those of Hyundai Creta,
Ford Ecopsort and Mahindra & Mahindra TUV300.
Powertrain
Maruti Suzuki has launched the Vitara Brezza with a single engine option only, i.e. the 1.3-litre Multijet diesel engine capable of producing 88.5 bhp @ 4000 rpm and 200 Nm of of torque @ 1750rpm. The Multijet engine is mated to a five-speed manual transmission. The Vitara Brezza will get a petrol mill in the future.
The Hyundai Creta comes with two options for a diesel motor and a single petrol motor. The 1.6-litre diesel motor is capable of putting out 126 bhp @ 4000 rpm and 265 Nm of torque @1900 rpm. The 1.4-litre diesel motor can produce 89 bhp @ 4000 rpm and 224 Nm of torque @ 1500 rpm. A 1.6-litre petrol mill is also present in the line-up and it is capable of producing 124 bhp @ 6400 rpm and 154 Nm of torque @ 4850 rpm. All variants are offered with a six-speed manual transmission. The 1.6-litre diesel mill gets the option for a six-speed automatic transmission.
The Ford Ecopsort
gets the option of one diesel engine, and two petrol engines. The
diesel engine is a 1.5-litre unit capable of producing 99 bhp @ 3750 rpm
and 205 Nm of torque @1750 rpm. In the petrol department, the Ecosport
gets a 1.5-litre mill churning out 110 bhp @ 6300 rpm and producing 140
Nm of torque @ 4400 rpm. The Ecopsort is offered with a five-speed
manual transmission across all variants, although the 1.5-litre petrol
unit gets a six-speed automatic gearbox also.
The Mahindra TUV300 also comes with a diesel engine only, a 1.5-litre unit producing 84 bhp @ 3750 rpm and 230 Nm of torque @ 1500 rpm. It comes with a five-speed manual and automatic transmission.
Design
The Vitara Brezza features a fresh boxy design with an aggressively styled front fascia. The slightly-sloping roof-line adds to the character of the car making it look like a blend of a compact SUV and a hatchback, in the best manner possible. The design looks fresh, and nothing like anything available in the Indian market currently.
The Creta was dubbed as the 'Perfect SUV' by Hyundai, and the car's design language was one of the biggest reason it could pull of the tag. The Creta from a distance looks like a scaled-down version of the Santa Fe, the biggest SUV in Hyundai India's portfolio.
The Ecosport has been around the longest out of these four cars , and although when the car was launched, the curved edges design philosophy of the Ecosport looked good, fresh styling by competitors now makes it look a little old. Even the facelift the Ecopsort received a couple of minor updates.
The TUV300 features a boxy design and sharp lines are present just about anywhere on the car. The front end of the compact SUV resembles that of well-known brand Jeep.
Price
Maruti Suzuki has priced the Vitara Brezza competitively, with the base model priced at Rs 6.99 lakh. The top-end variant is priced at Rs 9.54 lakh. The Vitara Brezza will be sold through the regular Maruti Suzuki dealership, and not NEXA outlets, the company's premium dealerships.
Hyundai at the time of the Creta's launch had priced the Creta higher than the competition . Currently the base model goes for Rs 8.87 lakh. The SX(O) variant, which is the top-of-the-line variant, is priced at Rs 13.98 lakh.
Ford's Ecosport offers a substantial price range with the base variant priced at Rs 7 lakh where as the top-end variant is sold for Rs 10.65 lakh.
The TUV300 is again similarly priced as the Vitara Brezza with the base model starting at Rs 7.11 lakh. The top-of-the-line variant goes for Rs 9.34 lakh.
All prices mention below are ex-showroom Delhi.
Verdict
The Vitara Brezza with its attractive pricing will definitely make an impact on the segment which is led by the Hyundai Creta in terms of sales. With the Creta being priced substantially higher, Maruti Suzuki has a chance to capture the segment with the new Vitara Brezza. The Ford Ecopsort also offers a good overall package but the compact SUV by Ford has been around for a long time and styling on the car feels a little old now. The TUV300 and Vitara Brezza are the only two options on the list that come with a diesel only option. Despite having a smaller displacement engine and substantially better fuel economy, the Vitara Brezza manages to be just more powerful than the TUV300.
The Vitara Brezza scores over all its opponents in vital departments. The Vitara Brezza with its incredible mileage, stylish design and incredible pricing is our choice, although you could be left a little disappointed with the power output, with Hyundai also offering the 1.6-litre diesel mill on the Creta.
