See Mind-Bending First Trailer for Marvel's 'Doctor Strange'

The Marvel Cinematic Universe will become one superhero larger this November with the arrival of Dr. Strange, Marvel Comics' black magic-conjuring sorcerer who uses his mystical skills to protect the planet. With Jimmy Kimmel Live celebrating Marvel Week, the late-night show offered up the first teaser trailer for the upcoming blockbuster that stars Benedict Cumberbatch in the titular role of Stephen Strange, an earthly doctor turned Sorcerer Supreme following a near-death experience.

"You're a man looking at life through a keyhole," Tilda Swinton's Ancient One, the Doctor's mentor in the magic, tells Strange in voiceover. "You've spent your life trying to widen it. Your work saved the lives of thousands. What if I told you that reality was one of many."

In its two minutes, the trailer for the Scott Derrickson-directed film sets up the origin story that will find Strange transforming from neurosurgeon to sorcerer while also providing glimpses at the film's supporting players – Rachel McAdams as a fellow surgeon, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Karl Mondo and Mads Mikkelsen's reality-bending villain – as well as some of the mind-altering visuals, like a city skyline folding onto itself. The teaser's closing moments finally hint at Dr. Strange in costume in silhouette.

Dr. Strange arrives November 4th.

A new Marvel superhero is getting his own movie this year, Doctor Strange. Played by Benedict Cumberbatch, neurosurgeon Stephen Vincent Strange becomes a person with special powers after he embarks on a multi-dimensional quest to fix his injured hands from a previous accident. That’s how he becomes Doctor Strange and ends up serving a Sorcerer Supreme, Earth’s protector against magical and mystical things. A first teaser trailer for the upcoming blockbuster is already available.

Cumberbatch is joined by Tilda Swinton (Ancient One) and Chiwetel Ejiofor (Karl Mordo), in this adventure.

In addition to telling Doctor Strange’s story, the movie also happens to provide fans with additional information leading up to the Avengers: Infinity War movies set to launch in 2018 and 2019. It’s not clear how, but Doctor Strange is also connected to the events in the upcoming Avengers movies. Directors and writers of Infinity War movies already revealed some early details about the upcoming pictures, saying they’ve been working closely with writers and directors of other Avengers Phase 3 films to make sure the stories click.
