Delhi Police files FIR against Kumar Vishwas on molestation charges
Delhi Police on Thursday informed a court in Delhi that an FIR has
been lodged on a complaint against AAP leader Kumar Vishwas by a party
volunteer alleging sexual harassment and insulting her modesty.
The FIR was registered at Sarojini Nagar Police Station in pursuance to the directions of Metropolitan Magistrate Pankaj Sharma, who had on Wednesday observed that the accused made "sexually coloured" remarks and made advances towards the complainant which required police investigation.
The police said in its compliance report that the case was registered n Wednesday itself, hours after the court order.
As per the report, police has lodged the FIR for the alleged offences under sections 354A (sexual harassment) and 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the IPC and started an investigation in the matter.
In the FIR, the complainant has accused Vishwas of making sexually coloured remarks and made advances towards her, alleging that "he was trying to exploit me physically".
Giving details, she alleged in the FIR that the leader had made advances towards her several times in 2014 and 2015.
The court had on Wednesday ordered lodging of the FIR on the plea of the AAP volunteer, while giving liberty to police to arrest the political leader if required during the probe.
It had further said that the investigation shall be done uninfluenced and arrest be made when required.
The court had on 24 February reserved its order on the complaint in which the complainant claimed she had approached the police but no action was taken against the leader.
In its status report filed before the court earlier, Delhi Police had said that during its probe, nothing was found to substantiate the allegations levelled by the complainant against Vishwas to register any criminal case against him.
The court had on 21 December last year asked the police to file a status report as to whether any FIR has been registered on the complaint.
