Precaution from Heart Attack
Two glasses of beer a week can prevent heart attacks!
Good news for beer lovers! You can now moderately consume beer and know that it is actually doing some good for your body contrary to what most people would think. Researchers have found that women who drink beer twice a week actually have a reduced risk of developing myocardial infarction or heart attacks [1]. Here’s why women are likelier to die of heart attacks. Researchers from the University of Gothenburg conducted a 32 years long study that monitored 1500 women aged 38 – 60 years based on their consumption of beer, wine and other spirits. During the study, the consumption rate of the number of drinks they consumed were also recorded.
The researchers then resurveyed these wide groups of women after 32 years, which was at the ending of 2009. They observed through more than three decade long data that women who drank beer only once or twice a week had a 30% lower heart attack risk. This study was published in the Scandinavian Journal of Primary Health Care. During the follow-up period, 185 women developed myocardial infarction, 162 developed stroke, 160 women became diabetic, and 345 developed cancer.
However, it is important to remember that women who drank spirits for more than twice a month were 50% more likely to suffer from cancer. This study was conducted in Gothenburg, the second biggest city in Sweden and the women were monitored from 1968 to 2009. If you want to reap the various health benefits of beer, remember that moderation is key. Stick to two glasses of beer once a week during a social outing and as far as possible, avoid having spirits too often. Heavy drinkers are also 60% more likely to suffer from a stroke.
