Aamir Khan's family home now a gambler's den

Bollywood star Aamir Khan, who turned 51 on Monday, said his birthday wish was to buy his 'ammi' her ancestral home in Varanasi. 

The property - known as Khwaza Manzil and once owned by the actor-filmmaker's maternal ancestors - is today in ruins, serving as a den for gamblers, a TOI visit revealed. A family living in front of Khwaza Manzil has bought a portion of the property. Gunja Devi, an elderly woman of the family, said they came to know about Aamir's association only when he was here in 2009. 

Aamir called Varanasi "extremely beautiful and historical", and said, "My mother spent her childhood in Varanasi. I have been thinking if I can request people there and get that house." "...if I get my mom's home there, that will give me the biggest happiness." 

A visit to the property in Varanasi's old city area found a group of people gambling in a corner of an open space surrounded by debris and crumbling walls. 

Aamir's first encounter with his mother's home in the narrow lanes of Bharadwaji Tola happened in December 2009 when he was there to promote his film "3 Idiots". During the visit, Aamir also met Nawab Kayam Raza, his mother's relative and a native of Katra Dara Shikoh, who died last year. 

"Aamir met my husband and gifted him a gold ring," said Nawab's widow Kaniz Fatima.

 When asked if he would want to ask his friend Salman to get married, Aamir said, “I haven’t really tried yet. I have only told him. I have not fully tried yet. If I put in my best efforts, I will be successful.”

Salman Khan may have successfully managed to remain a chronic bachelor for long now but good friend Aamir feels if he were to try his best he will be successful in making Salman tie the knot. 

When asked if he would want to ask his friend Salman to get married, Aamir said, “I haven’t really tried yet. I have only told him. I have not fully tried yet. If I put in my best efforts, I will be successful.”

Aamir Khan also wished Salman, who is playing a wrestler in Sultan, all the best for his film.
Aamir will also be seen as wrestler Mahavir Phogat in Dangal, which will release on Christmas this year.
