Vijender Singh vs Alexander Horvath
Vijender Singh knocks out Alexander Horvath for his fourth straight pro boxing triumph
However, all his efforts of staying in the ring for comparatively longer time came to naught as the end result was same – Vijender knocked out the Hungarian to register his fourth victory in succession.
Alexander, who was dining on viper's blood in build-up to the bout, looked less ‘venomous’ against Vijender, who executed his calculated punches smartly and knocked out his opponent in the third round itself.
Earlier, Vijender entered the ring in style the beats of song ‘Singh is King’ were being played in the background. He waved at crowd while entering the ring and wore his composed look.
In the first round, Vijender followed his usual strategy of gauge and attack. Alexander, on the other hand, was swift from the word go and tried to land some quick blows.
However, Vijender had the advantage of height as the taller Indian tactfully evaded his rival’s punches. Just as the round was about to end, Vijender found an opening and unleashed some straight crisp punches.
Vijender looked calm in the second round as well. While Alexander made several attempts to blow some quick punches and pile pressure on the Indian, the Hungarian’s blows lacked direction, went wayward and instead of helping him score some points, the punches seemingly fatigued him in a six-round bout.
The second round ended with Vijender looking more settled and Alexander looking desperate to score.
Vijender was in his elements by the third round and his body language was indicating of a victorious’s gait against Alaxander, whose drooping shoulders gave the impression that he was tiring. Vijender cashed in on the opportunity. He first continued his assault of straight punches to unsettle his opponent and his two cross punches brushed off Alexander’s left shoulder. The Hungarian sat in the ring and the referee started counting. Alexander didn’t stand up and the referee had no option but to stop bout and declare Vijender the winner.
Vijender was elated after victory and said that it was necessary ahead of his scheduled India bout in New Delhi in July.
"It's a good start for me beginning 2016 on a winning note. I am happy for registering knockout win. I think this is a great start for me looking ahead my fight in India in June this year. My target is to win Asia title in front of my homecrowd and looking forward to register two more knockout wins in April before i play in India. I would like to thank Indian fans in Liverpool and all supporting me on digital media," Vijender said after the bout.
Vijender Singh registers fourth consecutive win on the pro circuit
Vijender Singh kept his unbeaten run in Pro Boxing alive with yet
another knockout win over Hungary’s Alexander Horvath at the Echo Arena
in Liverpool. The Bhiwani boxer achieved the knockout victory in the
third round after being the one with the upper hand in the first two
rounds as well.
With the win, Vijender’s record in Pro Boxing stands at four bouts, four wins and four knockouts.
This was Vijender’s first fight of 2016 after his three wins last year. His first two opponents lacked any prior experience but the third was against a wee experienced Bulgarian Samet Hyuseinov. Horvath in comparison has a better record of five wins from seven bouts but on Saturday night, it didn’t show.
Vijender dominated proceedings with numerous left jabs into Horvath to leave him jarred and bruised as the first round drew to a close. The second round saw the Hungarian move around the ring to force the former Olympian to reach forward to make any sort of impact. The tactic succeeded to an extent with Vijender becoming less influential but never really being perturbed by his opponent in the red corner.
The win was sealed in the third round as Horvath’s right arm was injured and the referee counted down to raise Vijender’s arm for yet another victory.
It was later announced that Vijender will have two more bouts in April and May before the title bout scheduled for June in New Delhi.
