Under the Global Earth Hour initiative aimed to conserve energy, Delhi saved around 229 MW of power as electrical appliances were switched off across the city between 8 30 to 9 30 pm. 

BSES Rajdhani and BSES Yamuna are the power bases that cater to large parts of national capital. They saved around 130MW and 77 MW of electricity each, "this is more than last year when Delhi had saved around 200 MW," it said in a statement.

BSES had appealed to its 37 lakh customers to support the Earth hour initiative and voluntarily switch off non-essential electrical appliances for an hour. 

The concept of Earth Hour was introduced by WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature/World Wildlife Fund), it urged the households and business establishments all over the world to turn off the lights and electrical appliances that are not required for an hour at the appointed time. This was done to raise awareness towards the need to take action on climate change.
