Jat reservation stir

Jat reservation stir : Did DGP ignore IG

Lack of urgency shown by DGP even after receiving messages from the IG aggravated the Jat protests which had already reached a tipping point, suggest recent reports.

Inspector General of police, Shrikant Jadhav has claimed that the message was circulated through the WhatsApp group of the state officers and a direct SMS was sent to the state DGP. He further goes on to say that on February16, Superintendents of Police (SP) of Rohtak, Jhajjhar and Sonipat had sent across a request for 10 companies each of additional forces, which was not provided.

This is the message of IG Shrikant Jaddav to DGP Haryana Police.

Dear Sir,

The situation is  getting worse. There is widespread resentment amongst other sections of society. There can be clashes between jats & other sections of society. Essential commodities are hit. This has the potential of turning into a civil war. We need a company strength for each village. Law& order companies from places like Gurgaon, Mewat, Rewari, Ambala etc. should be rushed. We should have sufficient numbers to handle the rowdy elements . There were 600 of them at one place, the university gate. A group of hooligans amongst them created panic inside city but timely intervention saved an ugly situation .

Sir , I am not suggesting panic but we have a explosive situation at hand. Number of trucks are lined up at various blockades. Some of them are oil tankers.

The moment confrontation happens , which appears imminent ,these trucks would be the first target. We should not hesitate to ask for max RAF & paramilitary and also mobilise from our own force. Our response has to be swift and decisive.we don't have much time at hands. There are indications that today  they will try to block the GT road. It is my request therefore to send immediately the commando units, law & order coy's from haryana as also the RAF as requested by s'sp Rohtak, Jhhajar & ppt. We are continuously working on all fronts and need full support from you. We are confident that with sufficient force we shall overcome.

Regards,
Shrikant

The Jat agitation for reservation began on February 18 and soon blew out of proportion, crippling the whole of Haryana for the second time in less than a year.

The protesters unleashed a reign of violence across the state by setting a minister's house on fire, destroying public property like railway stations, malls, digging up highways, blocking tankers bringing water to Delhi and bringing normal life to a complete standstill.
