After being told that Prasoon Joshi had publicly run her 'past profession' down, 34-year-old Sunny Leone said: "I don't know who Prasoon Joshi is. I will Google him and then I will comment." Mr Joshi had said: ""I don't support Sunny Leone's past profession"

Actress Sunny Leone, a former adult film star, can now name-check a Khan when listing her supporters from Bollywood but she's not entirely sure who lyricist Prasoon Joshi, one of her critics, is.

After being told that Mr Joshi had publicly run her 'past profession' down, the 34-year-old actress told Indian Express, "I don't know who Prasoon Joshi is. I will Google him and then I will comment."

Sunny Leone also tweeted on Thursday:

On Monday, mid-day reported that Mr Joshi had said he disapproved of Ms Leone's former choice of career but that he didn't believe she ought to be vilified for it. "I don't support Sunny Leone's past profession and I don't even want the youth to get inspired by that. But it is also not acceptable to take someone up to the well for this," he told mid-day.

The 44-year-old lyricist, who has films like Rang De Basanti among his credits, added: "If the person is a drug dealer, that's the person's personal choice. Will I disrespect the person? No! Will I insult the person publicly? No! That probably my culture doesn't allow. But at the same time, I wouldn't encourage the profession either. Certain professions don't play a constructive role in bringing up a great society, we need to criticise them as well."

Mr Joshi was referring to a TV interview with Ms Leone which has been widely criticised as being judgemental and unfair. Ms Leone has been praised for her handling of the difficult interview.

Among those who rose to her defence was actor Aamir Khan, who was invoked by the interviewer who asked Sunny Leone if she thought someone like the 50-year-old star would work with her. Mr Khan answered for both himself and Ms Leone in tweets which read: "I think Sunny conducted herself with a lot of grace and dignity in this interview.... I wish I could have said the same about the interviewer. And yes Sunny, I will be happy to work with you. I have absolutely no problems with your "past", as the interviewer puts it. Stay blessed. Cheers. Aamir"

Sunny Leone, the most Googled Indian celebrity two years in a row, will be seen in this Friday's Maastizaade. In 2015, she featured in movies like Ek Paheli Leela and Kuch Kuch Locha Hai.
