Maruti Vitara Brezza launch
Maruti Vitara Brezza to not feature a petrol engine at launch
The long-awaited Maruti Vitara Brezza will only be
made available only in diesel initially, reveals our sources. Though,
the company plans to roll out the petrol-engined model at a later stage.
Set to make its global debut on February 3 at Auto Expo 2016, the
Maruti Vitara Brezza will be launched soon after its unveiling.
Powering the diesel version of the Maruti Vitara Brezza will be the same 1.3-litre multijet diesel engine that powers several other Maruti Suzuki cars in India. This engine will be tuned to deliver a maximum power output of 89bhp and a peak torque of 200Nm. The petrol engine, when launched, could either feature a 1.4-litre K-series gasoline unit or an all-new 1.5-litre engine. This engine will also power the export model as well.
The sub-4 metre SUV shares its design elements with the global Suzuki Vitara model, though the latter one is lengthier than the India-bound model. The vehicle also takes some of its design cues from the Maruti Suzuki XA Alpha concept that had made its debut at the Auto Expo 2012.
The recently released teaser video reveals that the new Maruti Suzuki sub-compact SUV features projector head-lamps, LED daytime running lights and vertical slats on radiator grille. The vehicle’s rear will have a chrome strip with Vitara Brezza written on it.
Upon launch, the Maruti Vitara Brezza will face competition from Ford EcoSport, Mahindra TUV300 and the upcoming Tata Nexon and Hyundai’s i20-based sub-compact SUV. For people not in the know, the Tata Nexon and Hyundai i20-based sub-4 metre SUV might also make their debut at the Auto Expo 2016.
Other Maruti Suzuki cars that will be showcased at the Auto Expo 2016 are – Ignis, S-Cross special edition and Baleno RS.
